Helping Parents Understand Home-schooling Platforms

Home-schooling is now an everyday event for parents, and some may not know how to use some of the software schools are using at present e.g., Seesaw, Aladdin, IXL. Limerick and Clare Education and Training Board has developed step by step guides on how to use these apps/platforms. Several others are also being developed and will be

available shortly including Google Classroom, Myon and Teams. These guides are available on http://www.familylearning.ie. Some of these online platforms were in use prior to schools closing and while children may be familiar with their use their parents may not.

Some parents do not have as much access to Public Health Nurses during COVID 19 and this has prompted questions on what their child should be doing developmentally. In response Limerick and Clare ETB have developed short videos on key stages of childhood development 0-6 months, 6-12 month, 12- 18 months, 18 months - 2 years, and 2-3 years, under four headings: Physical, Language, Intellectual and Social and Emotional. These innovative videos are available to view at http://www.familylearning.ie
